What I do
Four benches, one mechanic
Everyday servicing for bikes around Cambridge, and specialist hub, wheel and Brompton work for people who send them from much further away.

Service & repair
Safety checks, brakes, gears, bearings and drivetrain. Individual repairs from £5, with a full price list so you know before you book.

The hub-gear workshop
Sturmey-Archer and Shimano internal gear hubs stripped, cleaned, rebuilt and tested. Drop it off, or post the wheel from anywhere in the UK.

Wheel building
Spoke and rim replacement, truing, and custom builds for hub gears, dynamos and drum brakes — including wheels you cannot buy off the shelf.

Brompton
Hinge and pivot pin replacement, rear hinge, seatpost sleeves, rim replacement and gear hub work — with the folding quirks respected.
Nationwide
Take the wheel off. Put it in a box.
Internal gear hubs are built to be left alone — but not forever. Neglect one and efficiency drops, then something expensive breaks. You do not need to live near Cambridge to have yours looked after.
- Sturmey-Archer 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 speed — service or repair from £40
- Shimano Nexus and Alfine, serviced with genuine Shimano oil
- Brompton BSR, BWR, Sprinter and 12-speed
- All returns posted fully insured and tracked
- 15% off hub servicing booked with a bike service

Why bother servicing
It is cheaper than the repair
Worn parts wear out the parts they touch. A chain left too long takes the sprocket with it; a dry hub takes the bearing races. Servicing is the cheap end of that chain of events.
- Safety. Brakes, tyres and fasteners checked and torqued, every time.
- Cost. Catching a worn chain early saves the cassette and chainrings.
- Efficiency. A clean, adjusted drivetrain simply takes less effort to ride.
- Reliability. Fewer roadside surprises, especially on a commute.

“Noisy Brompton hub gears… Peter diagnosed, replaced the parts that could not be salvaged and now my 2 year old C Line is purring like a kitten.”
